I came across Lemon Verbena while I was picking up my Summer herb plants last spring. I had never heard of it before but saw on the tag that it said it was good for cooking and tea. Little did I know that this little Herb had some amazing detox and medicinal benefits not to mention tastes delicious!!

I did a little more research and learned that it was used for centuries for it’s medicinal abilities in treating Gout, inflammation, relieving colds, skin problems, indigestion, insomnia, joint pain, and combatting depression! It has also been know to be very de-stressing and an expectorant! –great for those who need to ease allergies! It is also a diuretic–helps you keep the bloat away during these summer months so you can stay in that swimsuit!

I love Lemon but I hate what the acid does to my teeth–with Lemon Verbena you get the flavor of Lemon without the Acid! I cut a little stem that had about 10 leaves on it and and a couple stems of Mint (15 leaves roughly)–Steeped it in 8oz. of boiling water and added a little honey. I keep the leaves on the stem so that I can quickly pull them out right before enjoying–no straining necessary!

Lemon Verbena is safe for most people when taken in appropriate amounts–too much can cause dermatitis in some people. As always if you are pregnant or breastfeeding take caution and consult your doctor before consumption. If you have kidney disease then avoid using large amounts of Lemon Verbena.
